  PRC-25

is the first US VHF transceiver for short distances in the tactical band. It is almost completely solid state, except one transmitter tube in the final stage.

It can be used as manpack, portable and vehicular radio. It was built in numerous countries and was the predecessor of many manpacks to come.
It is a legend, mostly because it was used in Vietnam.

For further infos see US military portable radios by Alan Tasker, WA1NYR.

PRC-25A and PRC-25B are radios with a slight change in schematics.
Many modules of PRC-25 and PRC-77 even may be interchanged. ( See link below to comparisons )

PRC-25-T
is a solid state version, developed by TADIRAN (Israel) for Greece.

The frequencies differ from the "normal" PRC-25 or PRC-77:
  • 26 .. 71 MHz in two ranges
  • 26 .. 48 MHz and 49 .. 71 MHz.

A battery of 12V only is needed, since the 3V required for the tube of the final amplifier of the PRC-25 are not necessary.

Instead of the original short antenna AT-892 and the long antenna
AT-271 ; a single combi antenna can be used:
    AS-2109

    Frequency range RT-505/PRC-25 :
    30 .. 75,95 MHz in two ranges:
    30 .. 52,95 MHz and
    53 .. 75,95 MHz.
    Frequency range RT-505/PRC-25- T :
    26 .. 71 MHz in two ranges:
    26 .. 48 MHz and
    49 .. 71 MHz
