  AN/VRC-12- Series

was the
standard mobile radio from the Vietnam War (1965) to the 90s.
The radios were used together with AN/PRC-25 and AN/PRC-77 Manpacks, used from the 60s to th 80s.
It consists of three main components:
(The collection contains all three radios.)

RT-246A/VRC, a transceiver with 10 preset channels without loudspeaker;

RT-524A/VRC, a transceiver without presets but with loudspeaker

R-442A/VRC, auxiliary receiver

The radios were put together in different combinations, thus forming radio sets
AN/VRC-12 and VRC-43 to VRC-49.

Explanation of the chart:
A radio plus mounting is the radio set.
VRC-12 consists of one RT-246 (plus mouting) and one RT-242 (plus mounting);
VRC-43 consists of one RT-246 (plus mounting). (and so on)

The series usually is called AN/VRC-12- series.

Accessories:
The Mounting MT-1029 is used for RT-246 and RT-524.
(MT-1029 also holds the power supply & audio amplifier AM-2060 for
PRC-25 and PRC-77).
the Mounting MT-1898 is used for R-442.
Both mountings contain some electric elements.
Other accessories are: Power supply, radio control boxes, transient and mini transient suppressor, cables, antennas, audio accessories etc.

VRC-12 replaces radio sets AN/GRC-3 to AN/GRC-8.
